Chad
Chad voted in favour of adopting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) at the UN negotiating conference in 2017. It has also voted in favour of the annual UN General Assembly resolution on the TPNW, including in 2024. Chad maintains policies and practices that are compatible with all of the prohibitions in Article 1 of the TPNW, and can therefore sign and ratify or accede to the Treaty without the need for a change in conduct.

Latest developments
In the First Committee of the UN General Assembly in October 2024, Chad delivered a statement on behalf of the African Group, which urged ‘all members of the international community, especially nuclear-weapon States and those under the so-called “nuclear umbrella”, to seize the opportunity to sign and ratify the [TPNW] at an early date’.1
